Feel the historical wind in the wings of the marshes
The name is because of the latest family member and his father before him had the title Dyke Count. The Dyke Count is the president of a society responsible for the dykes in the marshes. The farm out there in the marsh was built in 1857 in Westslesvisk-Frisian style, and is today owned by Ruth and Christian Lorenzen, the lates of six generation on farm Klægager. - It is because of this history, we called our farmhouse The Old Dyke Counts Farm, as we renovated it to Bed and Breakfast in 2006, explains Ruth Lorenzen.
Old but thouroughly modernized
Inspired by the campaign run by Realdanias, Re-use Your Farm, Ruth and Christian Lorenzen started some years ago with a thorough renovation of the old farmhouse and horse barn. Today they offer Bed and Breakfast in five beautiful double rooms. The farm has excellent communal facilities used for many exciting activities such as, lectures withfood samples from the South jutlandish coffee table as well as guided tours of local area. With support from Realdania the farm's stable wing has now been completely refurbished, so it can be used for sustainable activities rooted in local culture, nature, art, myths and food. The project includes an assembly room for 75 persons and a staffed kitchen in the old barn. - The vision is to restore the original farm and apply it to new purposes, that are financially sustainable, benefit the local community and give visitors exciting new experiences, says Ruth Lorenzen.
The historical setting allows guests enjoy the calm of the surroundings or immerse themselves in the region's history and plan tours of the magnificent local natural surroundings, which adds to the story of marsh farmers hard life of constant struggle with nature's forces: - Christian's ancestors were skilled marsh farmers forward-looking men and good storytellers. They have each in their own way, left their mark in the marsh. That is the legacy, that we want to carry on, says Ruth Lorenzen, who has chosen to focus on experience tourism. - More and more tourists have discovered the Area located close to the national park Wadden Sea with the additional possible opportunity to experience the Black Sun. As we both were born and raised in the district and have always been committed to the local area we can we make our knowledge about the region available.
